PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

STUDENT CENTERED EDUCATION
I believe in a classroom in which students are actively engaged and collaborating with others as they interact with an interdisciplinary curriculum. Students should be at the center of their education as they participate in learning that is designed specifically to support their various learning styles.
I believe that all children are unique, intelligent, and talented. It is my role, as the teacher, to foster those traits through a supportive, yet challenging environment. A place in which the children are encouraged to take risks without being afraid to fail. I believe that productive struggle is a large part of learning, but with scaffolded teaching, students can grow not only as pupils, but as people facing adversity.
I believe that the classroom environment should be one of positivity, where every student feels valued, respected, and safe. In my classroom, students and teachers work together to raise each other up and to celebrate what makes each person special. I believe that when students feel important, they become intrinsically motivated to work hard and learn the curriculum. However, it is my job to not only teach my students the basic content knowledge, but to also teach them how to be productive and caring members of their communities. By also providing my students with a strong foundation of positive social skills, I am helping them to become the future leaders of America.
